Cruising on NOTCOT.org this morning, I saw a post about how South African investment firm Allan Gray had created a television spot pondering the question of what would have happened if James Dean had lived. What if he had survived his car accident? The ad uses CGI, a lookalike actor and some additional trickery to show Dean as an adult and what he might have done if he’d had “more time”. Essentially, Allan Gray is a long-term investment firm. This is there way of saying invest and leave your money with us.
Does this spot rub you the wrong way? Is it a great commercial? It’s drawn some interesting critical fire and praise. I was curious of how you felt. After all, this kind of thing paves the way for having Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope in an action movie starring Tobey Maguire and the animated gophers from Indiana Jones 4.
